Recommendations? I heard he's good. Never heard of him until a friend told me about him. Seems really cool.

Sandman is fail.  American Gods is all the good parts of Sandman without Morpheus' wankage.  Neverwhere is good, and so is the one he did with Yoshitaka Amano (I think it's called The Dream Hunters).
