I didnt have any anything to do so I decided to pick up some cheap stephen baxter book and then I noticed..there wasnt a nigger or spic in sight..think I might going there more often. Anybody else ever go to book stores just to get away from muds?

BN is an awesome place to go just to relax in general even if you dont end up buying anything. You can just sit in one of their nice chairs and read, thats one of my most favorite things to do to just relax

during the summer months i go there just to bask in the AC while reading a magazine or two.
When there's a riot, the mudskins break into bars and gas stations ... not bookstores. Hmm.
When I was doing highly-paid tech work in Massachusetts, I noticed: Where were all the Black people? I saw plenty of Blacks around Boston's poor neighborhoods, but the only way they seemed to make it into the buildings I was working in, was by being in the cleanup crew.
I suppose my point is, why don't Black folk go to bookstores? What are their reading habits? What do they do every day, in fact, if they're not to be found in the bookstores and libraries?

I was talking to some black guys once about a book I was reading. They didn't understand why I would voluntarily read a book. Most white people I know think it's good that I read on my own. Blacks seem to have a cultural bias against reading like it's a tool of school system to turn them white or something.
That's very true. That sort of reminds me of Isaiah Washington's various diatribes about how every woe that befalls him is "because he's black" and not because he's a fucking idiot, stereotype himself, and biggot.
It may be by some people's standards, but it's also truthful. I can think of maybe three black people I've ever met (and there have been many), who weren't racial stereotypes and therefore intelligent.
The only thing that matches Black/ghetto culture's disdain for dem's yoosliss reedin' shi', is the culture of the Whitebread Christians. It's been long noted that if you're hunting books at garage sales, don't bother with the one held at the home of Mr and Mrs Chris T. Whitebread. Every book for sale will be some gay-assed religifag feelgood bullshit text that requires a 3rd grade reading level to understand. What's worse? Not reading at all, or confining your reading to the mental equivalent of a coloring book?
