Funny, engaging writing

I have a horrible attention span, so maybe I shouldn't be reading books at all. But please recommend fiction to me that smoothes the read along with jokes and cliffhangers and basically just keep you glued to the page. Examples -

Anything by Douglas Adams
The Red Dwarf novels

There are the only two I can think of right away. The books don't have to be sci-fi, but it would help if they didn't care too much about adhering to reality.

um...I'm not a fan of these but for people with bad attention spans you might actually like stuff by Dan Brown or Matthew Riley. The general public seem to enjoy it and from my sweeping generalisation I have concluded that the general public are unintelligent and have low attention spans so you can't really go wrong with that stuff.
