Finished House of Leaves too, twice. (Dutch&English) It's my favorite book ever,
but the last chapter did kinda suck. He should've left it out.

Tough bite but still worth it if you're into weird books.

written by Mark Z. Danielewski

It's basically about a house that's bigger on the inside than it is on the outside.

Do you think House of Leaves would make a good christmas present for a person who likes to pretend they are all 'alternative', but are in reality pretty much a normalfag, or is it likely to be the sort of book that would make them curl up in a ball and start crying?

well if you give it to someone who actually has good taste then they probably won't much care for it

why hasn't The Jungle been mentioned yet?

Without a doubt The Room by Hubert Selby Jr.

The most disturbing portraits of sadism I've ever endured. It even gives you a horrendously painful scene of a dog trainer's torture techniques. Truly churned my stomach. And this is coming from a guy who's seen 1guy1jar without a flinch. No literature is quite as haunting.

This comes from the guy who gave us Last Exit To Brooklyn so if you're into that Beat style, you'll definitely dig it.

Story of the Eye a pornographic-horror-gore book from 1928

A book that was hands-down the most disturbing thing I’ve ever read and that I haven’t been able to find back in North America is Intangible by Arturo Vicenté. Little girls delivering innocent naive rape dialogue to their babydolls, sensual euthanasia-type cannibalism in a nursing home, a mother having orgasms while breastfeeding her daughter….among other things I have blocked from my mind. I think the blatant horror of it came from the absolute vulnerabily of these monstrous characters. You were forced to empathize with them and that was the hardest part to accept while reading, that you might actually be like those people.

Blood Meridian - Cormac McCarthy

Such a violent book. I have no idea how they plan to film it because the violence is such an integral part of the book, it would have an X rating upon release.

I wrote a paragraph on my penis. I sucked my loins to shit.

Good book.

Anonymous : 2008-11-12 09:58,

I actually found Symbiotic Fascination not quite so disturbing, but then I'd been sucked in by the ype and my brain made up all sorts of scenarios before I actually read it.

Jacob's Dread in the Beast...now that book is disturbing. Hippie parents feed their three year old all sorts of drugs to keep him quiet and out of their hair. Kid develops a death fetish when he sees his parents murdered in front of him. Meanwhile, a young woman discovers she's the latest incarnation of the Shit Goddess.

that book is messed up.
