Well, I can't seem to post anything on the image boards so I'll post it here.
Happy Birthday Illu
Once, during an aerial engagement in the Rukajärvi area the Morane-Saulnier M.S. 406 fighter of a second lieutenant was shot down in flames. He bailed out from an altitude of 2,600 feet, but the parachute was damaged during his departure and a number of panels tore apart. Only the fluttering "roman candle" of the collapsed canopy was billowing over his head when he fell like a stone and disappeared into the treetops.
The other pilots who had witnessed his descent went back to home base to report the tragedy and all were bemoaning the sad fate of their fellow pilot. A couple of hours later a telephone call came in from an Army outpost to the squadron commander from the "late" pilot who requested a car to transport him back to home base.
Major Magnusson, who was the brother of our wing commander, nearly had a nervous breakdown and was about to hang up on the "ghost" but then, promised to send the car.

After arriving at the base the pilot told how the shroud lines of the parachute had caught on the uppermost branches of a tall fir tree as he rocketed by. The tree flexed downward and decelerated the pilot's descent to the point that he came to a complete halt with his feet about two yards from the ground. Then, acting as a slingshot, the tree flexed back upward and catapulted the pilot a good twenty yards into the tree tops. There he managed to grab onto the tree trunk and, after unhooking himself from the parachute, clambered down safe and sound. After descending from the world of the squirrels he stated that the most frightening part of the whole episode was climbing down from the tree!
If anyone wants to post it in the actual thread that's fine too.
