I've been reading all the manga that is out now, and I want to create a great AMERICAN published manga, not like the crap that tokyopop publishes. Any suggestions?

Listen...
you HAVE NOT read all the manga that there is out, first ACCEPT THAT. Second, let me tell you why there isnt much great AMERICAN manga, thats because america makes great COMICS, there style is diffrent though i prefer manga. And you think tokyopop publishing is CRAP!? excuse me but where are you valid and justifying reasons? if you dont like tokyopop, at least look at other publishers like VIZ, DARK HORSE COMICS and SHUISHA, or GONEN JUMP.

does "manga" made outside japan even count as manga.
I know Avatar:The Last Airbender isnt anime cos its american.
If so good luck with your quest there.

no, manga made outside japan doesnt count as manga, though some styles can be very similar
Avatar is actually an attempt by the americans to make anime, after so many failurs, and i have to say, it is quite good but nowhere near as close to good anime, so i dubb it as 'anime'.

actually, manga outside can be dubbed as manga, as long it lives up to a manga quality, with the manga style and such, for example:
Black God is a korean manga, but unless u know, u cant tell its not japanese. But if you look at american comics, theres a BIG diffrence, u can just see it in things like the art

Depends on by which definition you go. In Japan, The Simpsons is called anime.

I agree with 12

And it's called Anime because that's their word for animation, at least from other countries.

Anime is the word animation, really. They just left the "ション" out when they adopted it as a loanword.

I don't really like this differentiation between anime/manga and cartoon/comic, to be honest. It did make sense when people started with it (and it still does to some extend), because the styles of them are/were so very different. But much like the modern manga style was devised by combining the traditional Japanese style with that of western comics, today western and eastern cartoons are becoming more and more similar, with each side inspiring the other one. A large percentage of the animation world-wide is also produced as international joint-ventures. It's not uncommon for a show to be, for example, initially designed in Japan, animated in Korea and musically scored in America.
