Is it worth it? It seemed interesting, but at the same time I couldn't help but notice the blatant similarities between it and Berserk.

Don't worry, there's not much for similarities. Yeah, it's people with swords fighting freakish monsters, but that's not different from any other D&D-type show.
Trust me, it's worth it.
