was he referring specifically to Japanese otaku or just in general? either way I agree

well its different for the americans who call themselvs otaku. those people are more like "accidental downsyndrome". the naruto headbands are to hide their gigantic mongoloid forheads.
Autistic children often seem to prefer being alone. They may passively accept hugs and cuddling without reciprocating, or resist attention altogether.[citation needed] They seldom seek comfort from others or respond to parents' displays of anger or affection in a typical way.[citation needed] Research has suggested that many autistic children do form emotional bonds with their parents. However, this bond may be difficult for others to recognize because an autistic child's particular ways of expressing this attachment may differ from that of other children.

exactly. you cant "become" autistic but you can display a similar behviour.

i think that society has turned the otaku into a sort of idol. especially in the manga/ anime society, the "otaku" has become a title, that is supposedly supposed to mean that you have more knowledge than everybody else who watches anime and manga. since young kids are finding out that it is socially acceptable in the anime/manga community to be otaku, they watch a few episodes of mainstream anime and then think they know everything about the series. they then go off to their friends and brag that they know everything about their anime of choice and, depending on their friends, are then elevated to the otaku of the group. idk, i kinda rambled that and my add pills wore off a while ago so if it doesnt make much sense sorry. but yeah. basically, the "otaku" title is something good at first glance. mamushi told me a while back why he doesnt like the word otaku. why dont you share that article with us again. it was really interesting.

Well I feel like an otaku in a way due to it's japanese meaning referring to those type of people who shy away from society, staying at home and such. I, however know bigger anime fans who do not live up to the true meaning. I spend my time indoors but I am not a full otaku because I do stuff with people every so often. It's not too bad to be called one but most people don't know what it really means.

you shouldent want to be called one. I love anime more than my life and would do anything to be part of its fanbase but im not an otaku.
