Voices of a Distant Star is not "feel bad" anime. It has sad story, but it's not overly sad.

Gunslinger Girls doesn't make you feel bad either. It's not happy show, but it's not depressing either.

How foreign are you? If it has a sad story, it's a sad show. The story is the show. Did you even see it? It ends with her cockpit saturated with tears.

Then what is it? You can say that all these feel bad anime have 'ups', but they're still sad. Albeit with a happy ending, Gunslinger still has an overtly depressing overall theme.

And a manga elitist too! Berserk is one of the finest anime of all time, so if the supposed 'greatest manga' is better then maybe you should translate it properly to prove that.

I wouldn't mind your thoughtless critiques if you had bothered to offer any suggestions for better anime, but you've simply made your best effort to shoot down the few that exist.

No, the anime ended happily. But as the show's main ideas are fragmented and scattered throughout the series you can't invalidate all the themes just through the last episode. The human story itself isn't sad, but their position in it is. As far as conversions go, I hear it's a good complement to the manga, but different.

People might see it as another swallowable plot-by-plot adventure like Cowboy Bebop, but I really think it's more of an excellently crafted cyberpunk warning for the future and a homage to the space age, and I found its messages and reality very sad.
