I've personally never seen a black anime character.  Do they exist?

*Briareos Hecatonchires* is a character from Masamune Shirow's Appleseed manga. He is one of the two protagonists of the series, the other being *Deunan Knute*

Briareos is black.
Deunan is 1/4 black, her awesome combat skills are in part attributed to this.

There are some black characters in a series called bananafish its a manga, and its not very good, but it does have some black characters.

There are far more Black people in anime than there are Asian people in American pop culture. Seriously, how many Asian people are in movies where they aren't playing martial artists/ninjas/samurais/war fighters of some kind. Also try to list the # of successful Asian American musicians. That said I can think of almost 40 anime just off the top of my head that have black people, or people that pass for being black, in them.

Umm..... I know there are some black people.
But remember, there's alot of anime that takes place in Japan. You don't see that many black people in Japan. In Air Gear there's a really hot black girl that challenges Kogarusumaru to a race battle. She loses, and nearly gets naked.

They can't draw black people because characters' outlines are black!
It's not anime if they don't have black outlines...

You've all got me very much interested. First off, congratualtions to all the ignorant racist melanin deficient people who have decided to exercise their rights in speaking their minds. We of the black community appreciate your support by hating on us and proving just how jealous of our beauty and strength you truly are.

Ah, but to the point of this drawn out archive.
There are many African Americans portrayed in Anime, though we will have to use the term loosely. However, considering that no one will dispute there being white saiyans (Goku, Vegeta), I shouldn't be disputed on there being black Ctarl-Ctarls (Outlaw Star Alien Species). We are not nearly as represented as I myself would like to be, but there are men and women with complexions that I could note. For those of you who are interested in them, I'll see if I can comprise a decent list.

Oh before I begin, thank you Anonymous #344 for referencing Piccolo from DBZ. ;] I'm glad someone recognizes that the only true gaurdian of the world (Kami, who any fan knows is the originator of Piccolo) is a black man.
