I'm warning you, this is almost at the same level as "ZOMG I NEED YOU TO IDENTIFY AN ANIME WITH GIANT ROBOTS IN IT PLZZ HELP." This has probably been the plot of millions of things, but I will hate myself if I don't find it.

It ran on either Cartoon Network or Scifi between '98 and '00. The basic plot was that a group of people (including a younger girl, I think) were running from something and there were these mechanical devices chasing them (I think) and in the end the younger girl turns out to be the creation of whatever they're running from and was actually programmed to lead them to that thing.
